Abu ʿAbd Allah Ibn Manda said, “In Tripoli I recorded from Khaythamah one thousand parts ⦗1⦘.”
It was also said: “Khaythamah had large ears and a prominent nose—may Allah Most High show him mercy.”
ʿUbayd ibn Fuṭays stated, “He died in Dhu al-Qaʿdah, 343 AH.”
Abu al-Maʿālī Aḥmad ibn Isḥāq informed us; Abu al-Barakāt al-Ḥasan ibn Muḥammad related to us in the year 620 AH; Abu al-ʿAshāʾir Muḥammad ibn Khalīl narrated to us in person during the fifth session; ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī al-Miṣṣīṣī conveyed to us; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿUthmān conveyed to us; Khaythamah ibn Sulaymān conveyed to us; Aḥmad ibn Mulāʿib related to us; ʿAbd al-Ṣamad ibn al-Nuʿmān related to us; ʿAbd al-Aʿlā ibn Abī al-Masāwir—through Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn Muḥammad ibn Ḥāṭib, through ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Muḥayriz—transmitted from Zayd ibn Arqam, who said:
“The Prophet ﷺ sent me and instructed: ‘Go to Abu Bakr; you will find him in his house, sitting with his knees drawn up. Say to him: The Prophet ﷺ conveys to you the greeting of peace and says: Rejoice in Paradise. Then go to ʿUmar; you will find him by the small shelter, riding his donkey with his shining bald head. Say to him: The Prophet ﷺ conveys to you the greeting of peace and says: Rejoice in Paradise. Then proceed to ʿUthmān; you will find him in the marketplace buying and selling. Say to him: The Messenger of Allah conveys to you the greeting of peace and says: Rejoice in Paradise after a severe trial.’
“So I went, delivered the message to them, and found them exactly as the Prophet ﷺ had described. ʿUthmān asked, ‘Where is the Prophet ﷺ?’
“I replied, ‘At such-and-such a place.’ He took me by the hand until we reached him and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, Zayd came to me and said this and that. What ordeal will befall me? By Him who sent you with the truth, I have neither desired it nor provoked it.’”
