ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥasan, the judge, informed us; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿUmar told us; Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Ziyād told us; Saʿdān ibn Naṣr narrated to us; Sufyān reported from ʿAmr ibn Yaḥyā ibn ʿAmārah, from his father, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “No zakah is due on less than five awāq (silver ounces), and no zakah is due on fewer than five (1) head of camels.” (2)
Through this same chain Abū Saʿīd Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad in Mecca related to us; al-Ḥasan ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Ṣabbāḥ told us; Sufyān reported from ʿAmr, from Sālim ibn Abī al-Jaʿd, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr, who said:
A man named Karkara was responsible for the Prophet’s ﷺ baggage. When he died, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “He is in the Fire.” They went to look at him and found that he had kept back a cloak he had pilfered (3).
I remark: A mere camel-driver—even when found among the Companions—is of no consequence, as you can see.
In this same year there died: al-Ḥusayn ibn Aḥmad ibn Ayyūb al-Ṭūsī; al-Ḥasan ibn Yūsuf ibn Fulayḥ al-Ṭarāʾifī; Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā ibn ʿUmar ibn ʿAlī ibn Ḥarb; Qāsim ibn Aṣbagh, the hadith scholar of al-Andalus; al-Ḥusayn ibn Ṣafwān al-Baradhaʿī; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn Yaʿqūb, known as al-Ustād of Bukhārā; Abū al-Qāsim ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Isḥāq al-Zajjājī, author of al-Jumal; and Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Bālūyah.
