—“O shepherd, stand up and tell them.” So the shepherd informed the people of what the wolf had said. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then declared, “The shepherd has spoken the truth. Indeed, one of the portents of the Last Hour is that wild beasts will converse with human beings. By Him in Whose hand is my soul, the Hour will not be established until beasts speak to people, a man’s sandal-strap and the tassel of his whip speak to him, and his very thigh informs him of what his family has done after he left.” Al-Tirmidhī recorded this report and said: “It is sound yet singular (ṣaḥīḥ gharīb).”
ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn Bahrām and Maʿqil ibn ʿUbayd Allah also transmitted, from Shahr ibn Ḥawshab, from either Abū Hurayrah or Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, a narration to the same effect. Its chain is ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ—that is, reliable and sound.
Sufyān ibn Ḥamzah related: ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿĀmir al-Aslamī told us, from Rabīʿah ibn Aws, from Anas ibn ʿAmr, from Ahibān ibn Aws, that while he was with his flock a wolf spoke to him. He went to the Prophet ﷺ and embraced Islam. Al-Bukhārī remarked: “Its chain is not strong.”
Yūsuf ibn ʿAdī said: Jaʿfar ibn Jisr narrated to us; he said, “My father told me that ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Harmalah narrated to us, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, who said that Ibn ʿUmar recounted: A shepherd in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was with his sheep when a wolf seized a ewe. The shepherd leapt after it and snatched the animal from the wolf’s jaws. The wolf said, ‘Do you not fear Allah? You take from me a morsel that Allah had provided for me!’—and he mentioned the rest of the story.”
Manṣūr narrated from Ibrāhīm, from ʿAlqamah, from ʿAbd Allah (Ibn Masʿūd) who said: “We were with the Prophet ﷺ when we could hear the food glorifying Allah as it was being eaten.” Al-Bukhārī.
Quraysh ibn Anas said: Ṣāliḥ ibn Abī al-Akhdar narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī
