202 – Aḥmad ibn ʿUbayd ibn Ibrāhīm, Abū Jaʿfar al-Asadī *
The imam, ḥadith scholar, authoritative proof, and critic Abū Jaʿfar al-Asadī (1), from Hamadhān.
He narrated from Ibrāhīm ibn Dayzil, Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ al-Ashajj, Ibrāhīm al-Ḥarbī, al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī al-Surrī, Yūsuf ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Dīnawarī, Muḥammad ibn al-Ḍurays, and several others.
Ṣāliḥ ibn Aḥmad said, “We wrote down ḥadiths from him; he is truthful, and well-versed in genealogies and in the ranks of transmitters.”
Al-Khalīlī said, “He was trustworthy.”
He was the last person to relate from Ibn Dayzil. His cousin ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Ḥasan also claimed to have narrated from Ibn Dayzil, but the claim was rejected.
After Aḥmad died, the cousin circulated Ibn Dayzil’s notebooks, and the scholars deemed him weak (2).
Aḥmad passed away (3).
203 – Muḥammad ibn Ḥātim ibn Khuzaymah al-Kashshī **
He came to Naysābūr.
