Ismāʿīl ibn Jaʿfar said: ʿAmr ibn Abī ʿAmr related to us, from a man of Banū Salamah—reliable—on the authority of Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh: A nāḍih (draught camel used for watering) that belonged to some people of Banū Salamah went into rut; it attacked them and refused to be handled, so their date-palms were left without water. One of them went to the Prophet ﷺ and complained. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Come.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out with him. When they reached the gate of the orchard the man said, “Messenger of Allah, please do not enter.” He replied, “Clear the way; you have nothing to fear.” As soon as the camel saw him, it approached with its head lowered until it stood before him and then prostrated. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Bring your camel, put a nose-rope on it, and ride off.” They did so and remarked, “It prostrated to you, Messenger of Allah, as soon as it saw you.” He said, “Do not say that about me; do not attribute to me what I have not conveyed. By my life, it did not prostrate to me—Allah merely subjected it to me.”
ʿAffān said: Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us: I heard an elderly man from the tribe of Qays, reporting from his father, who said: The Prophet ﷺ came to us while we had a head-strong young she-camel that we could not manage. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ approached her, stroked her udder, it filled with milk, so he milked her and drank.
On this topic there is also the hadith of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Awfā, in which Ibn Fāʾid Abū al-Waraqāʾ is the sole transmitter—and he is weak—and another report from Jābir in which al-Ajlaḥ is alone in narrating from al-Dhiyāl ibn Ḥarmalah on his authority. Al-Dāramī and others recorded these.
Yūnus ibn Abī Isḥāq narrated from Mujāhid, from ʿĀʾishah, who said: “The Prophet’s household kept a wild animal. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was away it would play, run about and come and go, but when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned it would crouch motionless as long as he remained in the house.” This chain is sound.
Abū Dāwūd al-Ṭayālisī said: al-Masʿūdī narrated to us from al-Ḥasan ibn Saʿd, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd, from his father, who said: “We were with the Prophet ﷺ …”
