those two acacias and say: “The Messenger of Allah tells both of you to come together.” He then completed the rest of the report.
Murrah here is Ibn Abī Murrah al-Thaqafī. Wakīʿ also transmitted the narration once, saying: “From Yaʿlā ibn Murrah, who said: I saw something amazing from the Prophet ﷺ …” and so on. Al-Bukhārī said: “It is only related from Yaʿlā himself.”
I add: Al-Bayhaqī recorded it by two routes—one through ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḥafṣ, the other through ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yaʿlā from his father—both of which go back to Yaʿlā himself.
Mahdī ibn Maymūn said: Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Yaʿqūb related to us, from al-Ḥasan ibn Saʿd, the client of al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar, who said: One day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ seated me behind him.
He whispered to me words that I shall never relate to anyone. The screen he loved most when relieving himself was either a low wall or a cluster of date-palms. He entered an orchard belonging to a man of the Anṣār, and there was a camel inside. When the camel saw the Prophet ﷺ it groaned and its eyes filled with tears. The Prophet ﷺ approached it, stroked the top of its hump, and it calmed down. He then said, “Will you not fear Allah concerning this beast that Allah has placed in your care? It has complained to me that you keep it hungry and overwork it.”
Muslim recorded the narration up to the words “a cluster of date-palms,” and the remainder meets Muslim’s criteria.
