It is a singular, objectionable report, yet its chain of transmission is clean.
186 – al-Khirqī, Abū al-Qāsim ʿUmar ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAbd Allāh*
The eminent scholar and shaykh of the Ḥanbalīs, Abū al-Qāsim ʿUmar ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Baghdādī al-Khirqī (1), the Ḥanbalī, author of the famous Mukhtaṣar (2) in the school of Imam Aḥmad.
He was one of the leading scholars; he studied jurisprudence under his father al-Ḥusayn (3), a companion of al-Marrūdhī, and he composed a number of works.
Judge Abū Yaʿlā said, “Abū al-Qāsim had many writings that never became public. When reviling the Companions spread in Baghdad he left the city, entrusted his books to a house, and the house burned down.” (4)
I say: He came to Damascus, where he passed away, and his grave is well-known and visited in the Bāb al-Ṣaghīr cemetery.
Abū Bakr al-Khaṭīb said, “I visited his grave.” (5)
