Siyar Aʿlām al-NubalāʾShams al‑Din al‑Dhahabi

began to gush forth from between his fingers like flowing springs. He said, “Take it in the name of Allah.” We drank until our thirst was quenched and our needs were met; had we been one hundred thousand, it would still have sufficed us. I asked, “How many were you that day?” He replied, “One thousand five hundred.” Sound.

Hammād ibn Salamah narrated from ʿAlī ibn Zayd, from Abū Rāfiʿ, from ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, that the Prophet ﷺ was at al-Ḥujūn when the idolaters injured him. He prayed, “O Allah, show me a sign today after which I will not care who denies me.” He then ordered that a tree be summoned; it came scraping the ground until it reached him, and when he commanded it again, it returned to its place.

Al-Aʿmash transmitted a similar report from Abū Sufyān, from Anas.

Al-Mubārak ibn Faḍālah likewise related a comparable account from al-Ḥasan in mursal form.

ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar ibn Abān said: Muḥammad ibn Fuḍayl told us, from Abū Ḥayyān, from ʿAṭāʾ, from Ibn ʿUmar, who said: We were with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey when a Bedouin approached. As he drew near, the Prophet asked, “Where are you headed?” He replied, “To my family.” He said, “Shall I guide you to something good?” The man asked, “What is it?” He answered, “Accept Islam.” The Bedouin asked, “Do you have a witness?” He said, “That tree over there.” He called it, and it came tearing the earth until it stood before him. He asked it to testify three times, and it bore witness just as he said; then it returned to its original place. The Bedouin went back to his people and said, “If they follow me, I will bring them to you; otherwise I will return and stay with you.” Extremely singular, yet its chain is sound. Al-Dārimī recorded it in his Musnad through Muḥammad ibn Ṭarīf from Ibn Fuḍayl.

Shurayk narrated from Simāk, from Abū Ẓubyān, from Ibn ʿAbbās: A Bedouin came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, “By what sign shall I know that you are the Messenger of Allah?” He replied, “If I call this cluster (ʿadhq) from that palm-tree, will you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah?” The man said, “Yes.”
