friend. May Allah have mercy on ʿUthmān: the angels are bashful before him. May Allah have mercy on ʿAlī—O Allah, make the truth turn with him wherever he turns (1).
123 – al-Bazdawī, Abū Ṭalḥah Manṣūr ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī *
A venerable shaykh and musnid, Abū Ṭalḥah Manṣūr ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn Qarīnah (2) ibn Sawiyyah (3) al-Bazdī—also called al-Bazdawī al-Nasafī—the dehqān (landowner) of the village of Bazdah (4).
The amīr Ibn Mākūlā declared him reliable and said, “He was the last person to transmit the Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaḥīḥ from al-Bukhārī” (5).
The ḥāfiẓ Jaʿfar al-Mustaghfirī remarked: “They weaken his transmission because he was so young when he heard the book. They say: his audition was found in the handwriting of Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad, the client of the Commander of the Believers, dehqān of Tūban (6); afterward they read the entire book from the copy of Ḥammād ibn Shākir.
“The people of his own town heard from him, and during his lifetime students undertook journeys to study with him” (7).
