The imām, Qurʾān-reciter, ḥadith scholar, and grammarian—shaykh of the reciters—Abū Bakr Aḥmad ibn Mūsā ibn al-ʿAbbās ibn Mujāhid al-Baghdādī. He is the author of the book al-Sabʿah (2).
He was born in 245 AH. He heard ḥadith from Saʿdān ibn Naṣr, al-Ramādī, Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Mukharrimī, Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq al-Ṣāghānī, ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn Shākir, and others of their generation.
He recited the Qurʾān to Qunbul and to Abū al-Zaʿrāʾ ibn ʿAbdūs, received the variant letters (ḥurūf) by direct presentation from a number of teachers, and the science of this discipline ultimately rested with him; he held the teaching chair for many years.
