Siyar Aʿlām al-NubalāʾShams al‑Din al‑Dhahabi

your rites from me, for I do not know—perhaps I will not perform Hajj after this pilgrimage of mine.” Reported by Muslim.

Ismaʿil ibn Abi Uways said: My father narrated to me, from Thawr ibn Yazid, from ‘Ikrimah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed the people during the Farewell Pilgrimage and said: “Satan has despaired of ever being worshipped in your land, yet he is content to be obeyed in matters other than that—in the petty deeds you deem insignificant—so beware of him. O people, I have left among you that which, if you hold fast to it, you will never go astray: the Book of Allah and the sunnah of His Prophet. Every Muslim is a brother to every other Muslim; the Muslims are brothers. It is unlawful for anyone to take anything of his brother’s property except what the latter gives willingly. Do not wrong one another, and do not revert to disbelief after I am gone, striking one another’s necks.”

Yunus ibn Bukayr narrated from Ibn Ishaq who said: Yahya ibn ‘Ubbad ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr told me, on the authority of his father, who said: Rabi‘ah ibn Umayyah ibn Khalaf al-Jumahi was the one who would call out on the Day of ‘Arafah from beneath the throat of the Prophet’s camel. The Prophet said to him, “Call out: O people!”—and he had a powerful voice—“Do you know what month this is?” He called out, and they replied, “Yes, the Sacred Month.” The Prophet then said, “Indeed, Allah has made your blood and your property inviolable until you meet your Lord, just as inviolable as this month of yours.” He went on to relate the remainder of the address.

Al-Zuhri, in a report transmitted by al-Awza‘i, from him, from Abu Salamah, from Abu Hurayrah, stated that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wished to depart from Mina he said, “Tomorrow, if Allah wills, we shall camp at al-Muhassab, in the ravine of Banu Kinānah, where they once swore their pact of disbelief.” This was because Quraysh had sworn together against Banu Hashim and Banu ‘Abd al-Muttalib that they would neither marry into them nor associate with them until they handed over the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Agreed upon.
