Among those who narrated from him were his son Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad, Khālid ibn Saʿd (1), Sulaymān ibn Ayyūb, and a number of others.
He passed away late in 327 AH. Some said it was in 328, and by then he had reached advanced old age (2).
107 – al-Kaʿbī, Abū al-Qāsim ʿAbd Allāh ibn Aḥmad ibn Maḥmūd
The shaykh of the Muʿtazilah, the distinguished teacher Abū al-Qāsim ʿAbd Allāh ibn Aḥmad ibn Maḥmūd al-Balkhī, known as al-Kaʿbī al-Khurasānī, author of numerous works.
He died in 327 AH, the date given by al-Muʾayyad and others (3). Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq al-Nadīm, however, as noted earlier (4), placed his death in 339 AH (5), and this is incorrect. Jaʿfar al-Mustaghfirī mentions him in the History of Nasaf and reports that he visited the town.
I do not deem it permissible to transmit from him, for he was an active propagandist—that is, for Muʿtazilism (6).
