Al-Qāʾim died on 13 Shaʿbān 467 AH (1).
65 – Al-Mahdī ʿUbayd Allah Abū Muḥammad and his descendants
He was the first of the ʿUbaydī Bāṭinite renegade caliphs, the secessionists who subverted Islam: they proclaimed their Rāfiḍī stance openly while concealing the Ismāʿīlī creed (2). They sent out missionaries who lured the mountain folk and the uninformed masses.
This plotter claimed to be a Fatimid, descended from Jaʿfar al-Ṣādiq (3), declaring:
“I am ʿUbayd Allah son of Muḥammad son of ʿAbd Allah son of Maymūn son of Muḥammad son of Ismāʿīl son of Jaʿfar son of Muḥammad.”
Another report has him saying:
“I am ʿUbayd Allah son of Aḥmad son of Ismāʿīl son of Muḥammad son of Ismāʿīl son of Jaʿfar al-Ṣādiq.”
Some authorities maintain that his name was not ʿUbayd Allah at all, but rather Saʿīd b. Aḥmad; others say it was Saʿīd b. al-Ḥusayn.
