Al-Bukhārī has preserved part of this report with the same chain of transmission.
Al-Aʿmash narrated from ʿAmr ibn Murrah, from Abū al-Bakhtari, from ʿAlī: “The Prophet ﷺ sent me to Yemen. I said, ‘Messenger of Allah, you are dispatching me while I am still young, to judge between them even though I have no experience in adjudication?’ He placed his hand upon my chest and said, ‘O Allah, guide his heart and make his tongue firm.’ After that I never felt unsure when passing judgment between two people.” Ibn Mājah recorded this ḥadīth.
Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī and ʿAṭāʾ related—on the authority of Jābir—that ʿAlī arrived from Yemen to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the Farewell Pilgrimage. This version, transmitted through ʿAṭāʾ, is agreed upon by al-Bukhārī and Muslim.
Shuʿbah and others narrated from Saʿīd ibn Abī Burdah, from his father, from Abū Mūsā, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent him together with Muʿādh ibn Jabal to Yemen, instructing them: “Make things easy and do not make them difficult; give glad tidings and do not repel; and cooperate with one another.” This wording is agreed upon, and longer versions exist through other routes.
In al-Bukhārī’s Ṣaḥīḥ, through the narration of Ṭāriq ibn Shihāb from Abū Mūsā, it is reported: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me to the land of my people. When I later came to him, he was encamped at al-Abṭaḥ. I greeted him with salām.
“He asked, ‘Have you performed the pilgrimage, O ʿAbd Allāh ibn Qays?’ I replied, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘What words did you utter?’ I answered, ‘I proclaimed: Labbayka … (Here I am, O Lord) entering the state of consecration…’”
