Muʿammar narrated from Hammām, from Abū Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

“While I was asleep I was shown the treasuries of the earth, and two golden bracelets were placed upon my wrists. Their weight distressed and alarmed me, so I was instructed in the vision to blow them off. I blew, and they disappeared. I interpreted them as the two impostors who would arise after me: the man of Ṣanʿāʾ and the man of al-Yamāmah.” Agreed upon.

Al-Bukhārī said: Al-Salt ibn Muḥammad related to us; Mahdī ibn Maymūn related to us; he said, “I heard Abū Rajāʾ—namely al-ʿAṭṭāridī—say, ‘When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was sent and news of him reached us, we followed Musaylimah the Liar—and in doing so we followed the Fire. In the pre-Islamic period we used to worship a stone; and if we could not find a stone, we would gather a handful of earth, pour milk over it, and circumambulate it.’”

Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid narrated from Qays ibn Abī Ḥāzim: A man came to Ibn Masʿūd and said, “I passed by some mosques of Banū Ḥanīfah and they were reciting a ‘scripture’ that Allah has never revealed: al-ṭāḥināt ṭaḥnan (the grinders grinding), al-ʿājināt ʿajnan (the kneaders kneading), al-khābizāt khīzan (the bakers baking), al-thārdāt tharadan (those who crumble bread into broth), and al-lāqimāt laqman (the gobblers gobbling).” ʿAbd Allāh therefore summoned them, and they were brought before him—seventy men in all, their leader being ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Nawāḥah. He ordered that their leader be executed and then said, “We have never been able to keep Satan away from these people; instead, we will send them off to Syria in the hope that Allah may spare us through them.”

Al-Masʿūdī narrated from ʿĀṣim, from Abū Wāʾil, from ʿAbd Allāh: Ibn al-Nawāḥah and Ibn Athāl came as envoys from Musaylimah to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. The Prophet said to them, “Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?” They replied, “We bear witness that Musaylimah is the messenger of Allah.” He said, “I believe in Allah and in His messengers. Were it not that envoys are not to be executed, I would have killed you both.”
