45 – al-Qammūdī, Abū Jaʿfar al-Qammūdī al-Sūsī **
The Imām and ascetic of the Maghrib, Abū Jaʿfar al-Qammūdī (2) al-Sūsī.
He was a noble, devout worshipper without peer; he worshipped his Lord until his body became like a worn-out waterskin (3). He was proverbial among the people and one of the most forbearing of men—he would pray for those who harmed him.
He settled in Sousse and lived to the age of ninety-four. He left two sons—indeed, both died before him.
He passed away in Sousse, in Rabīʿ al-Ākhir 324 AH.
A brief booklet has been written about his life and virtues.
