- Abū Ṭālib Aḥmad ibn Naṣr ibn Ṭālib al-Baghdādī*
A ḥāfiẓ, meticulous authority, Imām, and the pre-eminent hadith scholar of Baghdad: Abū Ṭālib Aḥmad ibn Naṣr ibn Ṭālib al-Baghdādī.
He heard hadiths from ʿAbbās ibn Muḥammad al-Dūrī, Isḥāq al-Dabarī, Ibrāhīm ibn Barra al-Ṣanʿānī, Yaḥyā ibn ʿUthmān ibn Ṣāliḥ, Aḥmad ibn Mulāʿib, and their peers.
Those who narrated from him include Abū ʿUmar ibn Ḥayyawah, Muḥammad ibn al-Muẓaffar, Abū al-Ḥasan al-Dāraqutnī, and others.
Al-Dāraqutnī used to say, “Abū Ṭālib the ḥāfiẓ is my teacher.”(2)
Among those who transmitted his reports is Abū Ṭāhir al-Mukhalliṣ(3).
He died in Ramadan of the year 323 AH, when he was in his seventies.
Al-Khaṭīb remarked, “He was trustworthy and firmly reliable.”(4)
Among the senior scholars who related from him was ʿAbd Allah ibn Zaydān al-Bajalī. He also authored a useful historical work.

٣٥ - أَبُو طَالِبٍ أَحْمَدُ بنُ نَصْرِ بنِ طَالبٍ البَغْدَادِيُّ *
الحَافِظُ، المُتْقِن، الإِمَام، مُحَدِّث بَغْدَاد، أَبُو طَالِبٍ أَحْمَدُ بنُ نَصْر بنِ طَالب البَغْدَادِيُّ.
سَمِعَ: عَبَّاس بن مُحَمَّدِ بنِ الدُّوْرِيّ، وَإِسْحَاقَ الدَّبَرِيّ، وَإِبْرَاهِيْم بن بَرَّة الصَّنْعَانِيَّ، وَيَحْيَى بنَ عُثْمَانَ بنَ صَالِح، وَأَحْمَد بن ملَاعِب وَطَبَقَتهُم.
حَدَّثَ عَنْهُ: أَبُو عُمَرَ بنُ حَيَّوَيْه، وَمُحَمَّدُ بنُ المُظَفَّرِ، وَأَبُو الحَسَنِ الدَّارَقُطْنِيّ، وَآخَرُوْنَ.
وَكَانَ الدَّارَقُطْنِيّ يَقُوْلُ: أَبُو طَالِبٍ الحَافِظُ أُسْتَاذِي (٢) .
حَدَّثَ عَنْهُ: أَبُو طَاهِرٍ المُخَلِّصُ (٣) .
مَاتَ: فِي رَمَضَانَ سَنَةَ ثَلاَثٍ وَعِشْرِيْنَ وَثَلاَثِ مائَةٍ.
مِنْ أَبْنَاءِ السَّبْعِيْنَ.
قَالَ الخَطِيْبُ: كَانَ ثِقَةً ثَبْتاً (٤) .
رَوَى عَنْهُ مِنَ الكِبَار: عَبْدُ اللهِ بنُ زَيْدَان البَجَلِيّ. وَله تَارِيْخ مُفِيْدٌ.
