ʿAbd Allāh, and others of their rank in his own town. I add: he then journeyed on and, in Rayy, studied under Abū Ḥātim ar-Rāzī and a number of other scholars; in Mecca he learned from Abū Yaḥyā ibn Abī Masarra; and in Baghdad he heard from Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq aṣ-Ṣaghānī, ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn Shākir, Aḥmad ibn Abī Khaythamah, and their contemporaries. In Kūfah he sat with Abū Ḥāzim ibn Abī Gharaẓah al-Ghifārī and several others. He performed the pilgrimage more than once.
The ḥadith masters who transmitted from him include: Abū al-ʿAbbās ibn ʿUqda; the judge Abū Aḥmad al-ʿAssāl; Abū ʿAlī an-Naysābūrī; Abū Aḥmad ibn ʿAdī; Abū Bakr ibn Isḥāq aṣ-Ṣibghī; Zāhir ibn Aḥmad as-Sarkhasī; al-Ḥasan ibn Aḥmad al-Makhladī; Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Jawzqī; the sayyid Abū al-Ḥasan al-ʿAlawī; Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḥamdūn az-Zāhid; the chief Abū ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Dhuhl al-Harawī; Abū al-Ḥasan Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad al-ʿAdl; Abū Aḥmad al-Ḥākim; Abū al-Wafāʾ Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wāḥid al-Bazzāz; Abū al-ʿAbbās (1) Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad as-Salīṭī; and many others besides.
Al-Ḥākim said: “I heard al-Ḥusayn at-Tamīmī say: I heard Ibn Khuzaymah remark—while looking at Abū Ḥāmid ibn ash-Sharqī—‘The very life of Abū Ḥāmid stands between the people and lying against the Messenger of Allah (2) ﷺ.’”
I say: that is, he could tell the authentic report from the fabricated.
Al-Ḥākim also said: “I heard Abū Zakariyyā al-ʿAnbarī say: I heard Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Būshanjī…"
