Ibn Yūnus said: He passed away at the beginning of Dhu al-Qaʿdah in the year twenty-one and three hundred (321 AH). (1)
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Muḥammad al-Faqīh wrote to us, reporting that ʿUmar ibn Ṭabrazad narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Bāqī narrated to us; Abū Muḥammad al-Jawharī dictated to us; Muḥammad ibn al-Muẓaffar narrated to us; Abū Jaʿfar al-Ṭaḥāwī narrated to us; al-Muzanī narrated to us; al-Shāfiʿī narrated to us; Mālik narrated to us, from Abū al-Naḍr, from Abū Salamah, from ʿĀʾishah, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to fast so much that we would say, ‘He will not break his fast,’ and he would refrain from fasting until we said, ‘He is not going to fast.’ I never saw him complete the fast of an entire month except Ramadan, and I never saw him fast more in any month than he did in Shaʿbān.” (2)
Al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī informed us, saying: Jaʿfar ibn Munīr informed us; Abū Muḥammad al-ʿUthmānī informed us; ʿAlī ibn al-Muʾammal informed us; Muḥammad ibn Salāmah al-Quḍāʿī informed us; Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan ibn ʿUmar al-Tanūkhī—in the year 398—said: I heard Abū Jaʿfar al-Ṭaḥāwī say: Yazīd ibn Sinān narrated to us; Yazīd ibn Bayān narrated to us, from Abū al-Raḥḥāl, from Anas, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘No young man honors an elder because of his age except that Allah will appoint for him, when he reaches that age, someone who will honor him.’” The chain of transmission is weak. (3)
