Saʿid, who informed us; Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman the littérateur informed us; Abu Ahmad the ḥāfiẓ narrated to us; Ahmad ibn ʿUmayr ibn Jawsa related to us; al-Yazani transmitted it—and so he mentioned the ḥadith.

Abu Ahmad ibn ʿAdiyy said in his al-Kāmil: “Ibn Jawsa narrated to us; Muʿāwiyah ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman al-Rahbi narrated to us; I heard Ḥariz ibn ʿUthman say: I asked ʿAbd Allah ibn Busr about the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he replied, ‘In his ʿanfaqa (1) there were a few white hairs (2).’”

Muhammad ibn ʿAli al-Dimashqi and Muhammad ibn ʿAli al-Wasiti also told us: al-Bahāʾ ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Ibrahim informed us; ʿAbd al-Ḥaqq informed us; Yaḥyā ibn Manda informed us; Ahmad ibn Maḥmūd informed us; Abu Bakr ibn al-Muqriʾ informed us; Ahmad ibn Jawsa narrated to us; Muʿāwiyah ibn ʿAmr narrated to us; Ḥariz ibn ʿUthman reported:
“I said to ʿAbd Allah ibn Busr, ‘Was there any grey hair in the head of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him?’ He answered, ‘In the head of the Messenger of Allah there were a few white hairs; when he applied oil they would no longer be visible.’”

This is a singular ḥadith with this exact wording.

Muʿāwiyah, the shaykh from whom Ibn Jawsa heard, is unknown; I have not found him mentioned in the critical works.
