Praise be to Allah, who created the heavens and the earth, decreed His command within them, whose knowledge has encompassed the Footstool, and from whose bounty everything has come to be. It is one of His favors that He made us rulers, and that He chose from the very best of His creation a Messenger—highest in lineage, truest in speech, noblest in pedigree. He revealed to him His Book and entrusted him with His creatures, so he became Allah’s elect among all peoples. He called mankind to faith, and the first to believe were the Emigrants from his own tribe and blood—people of the purest ancestry, the most comely faces, and the finest deeds on earth. Then we were the very first of all creation to answer when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, summoned us. We are the Helpers—helpers of Allah and ministers of His Messenger—fighting people until they believe in Allah and His Messenger. Whoever believes, his wealth and blood are safe; whoever disbelieves, we strive against him for Allah’s sake unceasingly, and taking his life is easy for us. I say this, and I ask Allah’s forgiveness for believing men and women. Peace be upon you.
Al-Zibrqān ibn Badr then stood and recited:
“We are the nobles—no clan can equal us;
from us come kings, and in our midst the shrines are raised.
How many tribes we have subdued, every one of them,
when the spoils were seized and the prize of honor followed!
In famine we feed, and what we serve is roasted meat
when not a wisp of cloud is seen in the sky.
So you see the chiefs of men flocking to us
from every land, longing—and we bestow our grace.”
When he had finished, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Stand, Ḥassān, and reply to him.” Ḥassān said:
“From the plait-haired sons of Fihr and their brethren
there has emerged a path for all mankind to follow.
It pleases every heart whose inner core is God-fearing,
and by it every good deed is set in motion.
A people who, when they fight, crush their enemy,
and when they seek benefit for their allies, they bring them benefit.”
