Al-Farabrī died with ten days remaining of Shawwāl, in the year 320 AH, having nearly reached ninety years of age.
Abū al-Ḥusayn ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad, Muḥammad ibn Qāymāz, Khadījah bint Muḥammad, and a number of others informed us; they said:
Al-Ḥusayn ibn al-Mubārak and Sunqur the qāḍī informed us; ʿAlī ibn Rūzbih informed us; they both said:
Abū al-Waqt al-Sijzī (2) informed us, al-Dāwūdī informed us, Ibn Ḥammuyah informed us, al-Farabrī informed us, Muḥammad ibn Ismāʿīl narrated to us, Abū ʿĀṣim narrated to us, from ʿUmar ibn Muḥammad, from Sālim, from his father, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Concerning the Day of ʿĀshūrāʾ: whoever wishes may fast it.”
Muslim (3) also recorded it, through Aḥmad ibn ʿUthmān, from Abū ʿĀṣim; thus the report has reached us by an even higher isnād.
Along with him there passed away: Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā ibn Manda; his uncle ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yaḥyā; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad al-Rāzī, the nephew of Abū Zurʿah; Abū Asīd Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Asīd al-Madīnī; Muḥammad ibn Ḥamdūn ibn Khālid; and Abū al-Ḥasan ibn Jawṣā.
