Abū ʿAlī also composed a treatise dealing with legal rulings.
Ṣāliḥ al-Hamadhānī (1) said: “Most of our colleagues heard from him his book on legal rulings.”
My father narrated from him to me, and I asked Abū Jaʿfar about him. He replied, “He was of no consequence.”
I have likewise been informed that Ibn Khuzaymah used to speak favourably of him.
3 – Ibn Nayrūz, Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm*
The shaykh, musnid, and trustworthy narrator: Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Nayrūz (2), the Baghdadi, al-Anmaṭī (3).
Ibn Kathir remarks in his Tafsir (2/193), after citing the report from Ibn Jarir, that none of the compilers of the six canonical collections recorded it, even though they were aware of it.
Imam Ahmad (4/240–241) and al-Tirmidhi (nos. 3535–3536) transmit, through the route of Zurayn Hubaysh, that he said: “I came to Safwan ibn Assal al-Muradi to ask him about wiping over leather socks …” In the same hadith the Prophet said: “On the western side there is a gate whose width is a journey of seventy—or forty—years; God opened it for repentance on the day He created the heavens and the earth, and He will not close it until the sun rises through it. That is the meaning of His words: ‘On the day when some of the signs of your Lord arrive, no soul will benefit from its faith’ (Q 6:158).”
Its chain is hasan; Ibn Hibban declared it sahih (no. 186); al-Tirmidhi graded it hasan sahih; it is also found in Sunan Ibn Majah (4070).
Imam Ahmad (no. 1671) likewise narrates with a hasan chain, from Abdullah ibn al-Saʻdi, that the Prophet said: “Hijra does not cease as long as the enemy is fighting.” Muʻawiya, ʻAbd al-Rahman ibn ʻAwf, and ʻAbdullah ibn ʻAmr ibn al-ʻAs added: “The Prophet said: Hijra is of two kinds: one is to abandon sinful acts, and the other is to migrate to God and His Messenger. Hijra will not end so long as repentance is accepted, and repentance remains acceptable until the sun rises from the west. Once it rises, every heart is sealed with what it contains and human deeds are brought to a close.”
