from Abū al-Qāsim al-Shihami—in the year 527 AH—who related to us; Abū Yaʿlā Isḥāq ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Ṣābūnī related to us; Abū Bakr al-Jawzaqī related to us; and Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Daghūlī, Abū Ḥāmid ibn al-Sharqī, and Makkī ibn ʿAbdān related to us. They said:
“ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Bishr narrated to us; Bahz narrated to us; Shuʿbah narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Mawhab—and his father—told me that the two of them heard Mūsā ibn Ṭalḥah report from Abū Ayyūb al-Anṣārī (may Allah be pleased with him):
A man said, ‘Messenger of Allah, tell me of a deed that will admit me to Paradise.’
The people exclaimed, ‘What is the matter with him? What is the matter with him?’
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘Does he have some need?’ and then declared, ‘You worship Allah, associating nothing with Him; you establish the prayer; you pay the zakah; and you keep the ties of kinship. Now let her go.’ It was as though he were seated on his mount.
This is Ibn al-Sharqī’s wording.
Al-Bukhārī and Muslim (1) both recorded this tradition from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, so our chain coincides with theirs while remaining higher.
Umm al-Faḍl Zaynab bint ʿUmar ibn Kindī in Baalbek informed us, from Umm al-Muʾayyad Zaynab bint Abī al-Qāsim; Abū al-Muẓaffar ʿAbd al-Munʿim ibn ʿAbd al-Karīm informed us; Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī al-Khasshāb informed us; Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Zakariyyā the ḥāfiẓ informed us; and Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Daghūlī together with Makkī ibn ʿAbdān informed us. They said:
ʿAbd Allāh ibn Hāshim narrated to us; Sufyān narrated to us, from Abū al-Zinād, from al-Aʿraj, from Abū Hurayrah, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
‘Allah—exalted is His remembrance—is amazed at two men: one kills the other, yet they both enter Paradise.’
Al-Daghūlī added in his version: ‘Sufyān said, “One of them is an unbeliever and the other a Muslim; the unbeliever kills the Muslim, then …”’
