—and he even met Abū Nuʿaym.
He once entered upon the vizier ʿAlī ibn ʿĪsā, who asked him, “How old is the judge?”
He replied, “I really do not know. What I can tell you is that a marvel appeared in Kūfa, and I rode out with my father in the year 215 AH.”
One narrator quoted him with the additional words: “I rode with my father to the governor appointed by al-Maʾmūn, and now I have ridden to the vizier’s audience—there are a full one hundred years between the two rides.”
Abū Ḥafṣ ibn Shāhīn said: “He reached one hundred and sixteen years of age.”
