Thursday, in Jumada al-Akhira, in the year 316 AH, and he was already in his nineties. I am not aware of Abū Aḥmad al-Ḥākim having related anything from him.
301 – Ibn Dhayyāl, al-Faḍl ibn Aḥmad ibn Manṣūr al-Zubaydī
He is the ḥadith scholar, the reliable authority, the last of the senior shaykhs: Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Faḍl ibn Aḥmad ibn Manṣūr ibn Dhayyāl al-Zubaydī, of Baghdad.
He heard ḥadith from Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal, ʿAbd al-Aʿlā ibn Ḥammād al-Narsī, and others.
Those who transmitted from him include Abū al-Fatḥ al-Qawwās, Ibn Maʿrūf the judge, Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar al-Najjār, and Abū al-Ḥasan al-Dāraqutnī.
Al-Dāraqutnī said: “He is trustworthy, reliable.”
I (al-Dhahabī) say: It is astonishing that they did not record the date of his death.
Yūsuf ibn ʿUmar al-Qawwās said: “Al-Faḍl ibn Aḥmad dictated to us in 317 AH: ʿAbd al-Aʿlā ibn Ḥammād narrated to us, Ḥammād ibn Salama narrated to us the ḥadith of Abū al-ʿAsharāʾ al-Dāramī (1)…,” and he went on to quote it.
