ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿĀmir came out to the Friday prayer wearing thin garments, while Abū Bilāl was beneath the pulpit. Abū Bilāl remarked, “Look at your governor—he is dressed in the clothing of the immoral!”
At that, Abū Bakrah, who was also beneath the pulpit, said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘Whoever insults the authority Allah has appointed on earth, Allah will abase him.’” (1)
