who, in turn, related to us:
ʿAlī ibn Aḥmad ibn al-Baqshalān narrated to us; Abū al-Ḥasan ibn al-Abnusī narrated to us; ʿĪsā ibn ʿAlī narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad al-Baghawī narrated to us; Yaḥyā ibn Muḥammad ibn Ṣāʿid—one of our reliable colleagues—reported to us; al-Ḥasan ibn Mudrik al-Ṭaḥḥān related to us; Yaḥyā ibn Ḥammād, from Abū ʿAwanah, from Dāwūd ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Awdi, from Ḥumayd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, who said:
“We visited Usayr (1)—a man from among the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ—and he said:
‘The Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared, “Nothing ever comes to you by way of modesty except good.” (2)’
Al-Dāraqutnī said: Ibn Ṣāʿid had two brothers—Yūsuf ibn Muḥammad, who narrates from Khallād ibn Yaḥyā and others; and Aḥmad al-Awsat, who transmitted from Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah. They also had an uncle named ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṣāʿid.
Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Sulamī stated: I asked al-Dāraqutnī about Yaḥyā ibn Muḥammad ibn Ṣāʿid, and he replied, “Trustworthy, firmly grounded, a ḥāfiẓ. Their uncle reports from Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah on Sufism and asceticism.”
Ḥamzah ibn Yūsuf al-Sahmī said: I asked Abū Bakr Aḥmad ibn ʿAbdān, “Who has transmitted more hadith, Ibn Ṣāʿid or al-Bāghandī?” He answered, “Ibn Ṣāʿid has transmitted more.”
