316 AH, while the Imām Abū al-Ḥasan Ibn Qaṭṭān al-Fāsī dated his death to 318 AH.
A number of teachers authorized us to transmit—from ʿĀʾishah bint Maʿmar (ḥ).
Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad al-ʿAllānī said: ʿIsḥāq ibn Abī Bakr informed us; Yūsuf ibn Khalīl informed us; al-Muʾayyad ibn al-Ikhwah informed us, saying:
Saʿīd ibn Abī al-Rajāʾ informed us; Abū Ṭāhir Aḥmad ibn Maḥmūd and Manṣūr ibn al-Ḥusayn informed us, saying:
Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm informed us; Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm ibn al-Mundhir—the jurist of Mecca—informed us; Muḥammad ibn Maymūn narrated to us; ʿAbdullāh ibn Yaḥyā al-Burullusī narrated to us, from Ḥaywah ibn Shurayḥ, from Ibn ʿAjlān, from Abū al-Zinād, from al-Aʿraj, from Abū Hurayrah:
that the Prophet ﷺ said, “Whoever drags something in order to kill himself is only dragging it into the Fire; whoever stabs himself with something is only stabbing himself in the Fire; and whoever throws himself headlong is only hurling himself into the Fire.” (1)
This is a singular (gharīb) narration.
Ibn al-Mundhir also composed a large commentary in more than a dozen volumes, a work that likewise secures for him the rank of imamate in the science of exegesis.
