but he could not find it, so he came to Bunān and asked him to invoke Allah on his behalf. Bunān replied, “I am an old man and I am fond of sweets. Go to the house of Faraj and buy me a ratl—about a pound—of sweets, and then I will pray for you.”
The man did as requested and returned. Bunān said, “Open the wrapper.” When he opened it, the bond was inside. Bunān said, “Here is your document. Take it, and give the sweets to your children.”
Ibn Yūnus said: Bunān passed away in Ramadan of the year 316 AH. The majority of the people of Egypt attended his funeral, and the sheer press of the crowds was astonishing.
