Muḥammad the ḥāfiẓ—both of them said:
Abū al-Munjā ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar al-Ḥarīmī informed us; ʿAbd al-Awwal ibn ʿĪsā informed us; Abū Manṣūr ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Muḥammad al-Būshanjī informed us; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Aḥmad al-Harawī informed us; Abū al-Qāsim ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad al-Baghawī narrated to us; Suwayd ibn Saʿīd narrated to us; ʿAlī ibn Mushir narrated to us, saying:
“I and Ḥamzah al-Zayyāt heard five hundred hadiths from Abān ibn Abī ʿAyyāsh—indeed, he may have mentioned even more (1). Later Ḥamzah told me, ‘I saw the Prophet ﷺ in a dream, so I presented those reports to him. He recognized only a few of them—five or six hadiths—so I abandoned transmitting anything from him.’ ”
Muslim recorded this narration in the introduction to his Ṣaḥīḥ (2) through Suwayd, and our chain meets his with a higher isnād.
