Through this same chain, Abū ʿAwanah informed us; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Bishr narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Razzāq related to us; Ibn Jurayj informed us; Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd—and Suhayl as well—heard al-Nuʿmān ibn Abī ʿAyyāsh report from Abū Saʿīd al-Khuḍrī that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Whoever fasts one day for the sake of Allah, Allah will distance him from the Fire by seventy autumns.”
Muslim recorded it (1) through the transmission of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān.
Likewise, through this chain Abū ʿAwanah informed us; al-Zaʿfarānī informed us; ʿUbaydah ibn Ḥumayd informed us; Manṣūr narrated to me, from Ibrāhīm, from ʿAlqamah, from ʿĀʾishah who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to engage in physical intimacy while he was fasting. I think she also said, ‘and he would kiss while fasting,’ and he exercised the greatest control over his desires.”
Al-Nasāʾī recorded it (2) through al-Zaʿfarānī.

The hadith is transmitted by al-Bukhari, 5/263, in the Book of Legal Conditions, chapter: “The conditions governing a waqf,” and 5/299, chapters: “How a waqf deed is written” and “Endowing property for both the rich and the poor”; by Muslim (1632) in the Book of Bequests, chapter: “Waqf”; by al-Tirmidhi (1375), Abu Dawud (2878), and al-Nasaʾi, 6/230-231. All of them report it through the chain of Ibn Awn, from Nafiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar: ʿUmar acquired a piece of land at Khaybar and came to the Prophet ﷺ for guidance, saying, “Messenger of Allah, I have gained land at Khaybar; I have never acquired any wealth that is dearer to me. What do you command me to do with it?” He replied, “If you wish, retain the corpus and give it as charity.” ʿUmar therefore donated it on condition that its original property could neither be sold, bought, inherited, nor given away. He allocated its proceeds to the poor, relatives, for the emancipation of slaves, in the path of Allah, to the wayfarer, and to guests, stipulating that the trustee may eat from it in a reasonable manner or feed a friend, without amassing wealth from it.
(1) Number 1153 in the Book of Fasting, chapter: “The merit of fasting in the path of Allah for one who can do so without harm or neglect of duty.” It is also in Sahih al-Bukhari, 6/35, Book of Jihad, chapter: “The merit of fasting in the path of Allah,” and is reported as well by al-Tirmidhi (1622) and al-Nasaʾi, 4/173.
(2) Found in al-Kubra, not in the abridged edition prepared by the student Ibn al-Sani. Its chain of transmission is sound.
The same hadith is recorded by Malik in al-Muwattaʾ, 1/273-274, Book of Fasting, chapter: “Concession regarding kissing for the fasting person”; by al-Bukhari, 4/131, Book of Fasting, chapter: “Kissing while fasting”; by Muslim (1106), Book of Fasting, chapter: “Clarification that kissing while fasting is not forbidden for one whose desire is not aroused”; by Abu Dawud (2382), Book of Fasting, chapter: “Kissing while fasting”; and by al-Tirmidhi (727, 729), all through the narration of …
