Ibn Bujayr passed away in the year 311 AH.
Ahmad ibn Hibah Allah informed us, through ʿAbd al-Raḥīm ibn Abī Saʿd; ʿUthmān ibn ʿAlī informed us; ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn Khidhām, the preacher, informed us; my grandfather, the judge Abū ʿAlī al-Nasafī—Ahmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar ibn Muḥammad ibn Bujayr—narrated to us; my grandfather Abū Ḥafṣ informed us; Muḥammad ibn al-Muthannā narrated to us; ʿUthmān ibn ʿUmar narrated to us; Fulayḥ(1) narrated to us, from Hilāl ibn ʿAlī, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yasār, from Abū Hurayrah, who said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Every member of my community will enter Paradise except those who refuse.” They asked, “O Messenger of Allah, who would refuse?” He replied, “Whoever obeys me will enter Paradise, and whoever disobeys me has refused.”
220 – Ibn Maʿdan, Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Rāshid al-Thaqafī*
An imām, ḥadīth master, and prolific author: Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Rāshid ibn Maʿdan al-Thaqafī, a client of the Thaqafī clan, from Isfahan.
(1) He is Falyh b. Sulayman al-Khuza‘i (or al-Aslami), Abu Yahya al-Madani, a transmitter of the same generation as Malik. Al-Bukhari and the compilers of the Sunan deemed his reports admissible, while Muslim cited only one narration from him—the hadith al-ifk (the slander episode). Ibn Ma‘in, al-Nasa’i, and Abu Dawud graded him weak. Al-Saji said: “He was truthful but prone to error.” Al-Darqutni judged: “Opinions differ about him, yet there is no serious objection to him.” Ibn ‘Adi wrote: “He has sound and reliable narrations as well as some odd ones; in my view there is no harm in him.”
Ibn Hajar notes in the introduction to Fath al-Bari, p. 435: “Al-Bukhari did not rely on him as he relied on Malik, Ibn ‘Uyaynah and their peers; he cited only a few of his traditions, most of them in the chapters on virtues (manaqib) and some in spiritual exhortations (riqaq).”
The present hadith is recorded by Al-Bukhari in his Sahih, 13/214, Book of Al-I‘tisam, chapter “Following the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah,” through the chain: Muhammad b. Sinan – Falyh – Hilal b. ‘Ali – ‘Ata’ b. Yasar – Abu Hurayra.
