218 – Ibn Wahb, ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn Wahb al-Dīnawarī*
A scholar, ḥāfiẓ, accomplished and widely travelled traditionist, Abū Muḥammad ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn Wahb al-Dīnawarī.
He received ḥadith from Abū ʿUmayr ibn al-Naḥḥās al-Ramlī, Yaʿqūb ibn Ibrāhīm al-Dawraqī, Abū Saʿīd al-Ashajj, Muḥammad ibn al-Walīd al-Busrī, Aḥmad, the nephew of Ibn Wahb, Yūnus ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā, and others of their rank in Egypt, Syria, Iraq, and the Ḥijāz.
He authored works and produced collected editions of ḥadith.
Among those who narrated from him were: Jaʿfar al-Firyābī—who was older than he—, the ḥāfiẓ Abū ʿAlī al-Naysābūrī, the judge Yūsuf al-Mayānajī, the judge Abū Bakr al-Abharī, ʿUmar ibn Sahl al-Dīnawarī, and ʿAbd Allāh ibn Saʿīd al-Burūjirdī—the last person to transmit from him.
Al-ḥāfiẓ Abū ʿAlī said, “I have been informed that Abū Zurʿah al-Rāzī was unable to match Ibn Wahb al-Dīnawarī in scholarly discussion.”
