I would not include him in it; he used to jumble narrations and engage in tadlīs. Among all the transmitters from whom I have written, none is, in my view, more esteemed or more copious in hadith than he—save that he is avaricious. Even so, his retention is superior to that of Abū Bakr ibn Abī Dāwūd.
I asked Abū al-Ḥasan al-Dāraqutnī about him, and he said, “He practices tadlīs frequently, relates what he has not heard, and may even pilfer (other people’s reports).”
Al-Khaṭīb (1) said, “Nothing reprehensible has been firmly established about al-Baghandī except his tadlīs, and I have seen all of our teachers rely on him and cite him in their Ṣaḥīḥ compilations.”
I add: His transmissions reach al-Fakhr ibn al-Bukhārī and his cohort with a highly elevated isnād.
Ibn Shāhīn said: “He died on Friday, the twentieth of Dhū al-Ḥijjah in the year 312 AH.”

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “On the night I was taken on the Night Journey, I passed by Moses at the red dune; he was standing, praying in his grave.”
Muslim (2) recorded it from Shaybān.
