Aḥmad al-Dārimī narrated to us, and Ibn Khuzaymah passed the account on.
Al-Ḥākim said: I have read, in Muslim’s own handwriting: “Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq—our colleague—narrated to me; then Zakariyyā ibn Yaḥyā ibn Abān narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yūsuf narrated to us; and Ismāʿīl ibn Rabīʿah (1) narrated to us a ḥadith about the prayer for rain (istisqāʾ).”
Al-Ḥākim also said: Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Qāsim wrote to me from Egypt that Muḥammad ibn al-Rabīʿ al-Jīzī had conveyed to them the following chain: “Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥakam narrated to me; Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq ibn Khuzaymah narrated to me; Mūsā ibn Khāqān narrated to us; Isḥāq al-Azraq narrated to us, from Sufyān, from al-Aʿmash, from Muslim al-Baṭīn, from Saʿīd, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said:
‘When they expelled their Prophet, Abū Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “I knew that fighting would break out.”’
Abū ʿUthmān Saʿīd ibn Ismāʿīl al-Ḥayrī said: Ibn Khuzaymah narrated to us, saying, ‘Whenever I intended to compile a work, I would enter the prayer, perform istikhāra, and remain there until the way was opened for me; only then would I begin writing.’
Abū ʿUthmān added, ‘Indeed, Allah repels calamity from the people of this town because of the presence of Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq.’
