Ibn Ḥammūyah al-Muzakkī, and a great many others besides.
Abū al-Faḍl Aḥmad ibn Hibat Allah related to us—in the reading I presented to him in 696 AH—from ʿAbd al-Muʿizz ibn Muḥammad al-Harawī. He was informed by Tamīm ibn Abī Saʿīd al-Qaṣṣār; he was informed by Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān in 449 AH; he was informed by the ḥāfiẓ Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad al-Naysābūrī; he was informed by Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq; ʿAlī ibn Ḥujr narrated to us; ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Ḥuṣayn narrated from Abū Umayyah, who reported that Ḥabīb told him, on the authority of Zirr ibn Ḥubaysh:
He came to Ṣafwān ibn ʿAssāl—who was one of the Companions—and said to him, “What has brought you here?”
They replied, “We have left our homes seeking knowledge.”
He said, “Whoever leaves his house in pursuit of knowledge, the angels lower their wings for the seeker of knowledge.”
He then asked him about wiping over leather socks. Ṣafwān said, “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about it, and he allotted to the traveller three days and their nights, and to the resident one day and one night. I do not mean in the state of major ritual impurity, but only after defecation, urination, or sleep.”
The ḥāfiẓ Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad commented: “This is a singular (gharīb) report through Ḥabīb ibn Abī Thābit. I know of no one who has transmitted it except Abū Umayyah ʿAbd al-Karīm ibn Abī al-Mukhāriq (1); his father’s name was Qays.”
Aḥmad ibn Hibat Allah ibn Aḥmad related to us, from ʿAbd al-Muʿizz ibn Muḥammad; Zāhir ibn Ṭāhir informed us; Abū Saʿd al-Kanjarūdhī narrated to us; Bishr ibn Muḥammad the judge narrated to us; Ibn Khuzaymah informed us; Aḥmad ibn Naṣr al-Muqriʾ informed us; Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī, known as Maḥbūb, informed us; Khālid al-Ḥadhdhāʾ narrated to us, from Abū Qilābah, from ʿAmr ibn Salamah, who said:
“Caravans used to come to us from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I would learn from them one verse or two, and they would inform us that…”
