I heard Ḥumrān relate from ʿUthmān who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘Whoever knows that there is no god but Allah will enter Paradise.’ ⦗1⦘
This is a singular report; only Ibn Ḥumrān transmits it.
A person does not truly know that there is no god but Allah until he dissociates himself from every religion other than Islam and pronounces lā ilāha illā Allah (there is no god but Allah) with full certainty. Should he have that knowledge yet refuse—while able—to utter it, he is to be deemed a disbeliever.
197 – al-Maqdisī, Abū Muḥammad ʿAbd Allah ibn Muḥammad ibn Salm*
The imam, hadith scholar, devoted worshipper, and trustworthy transmitter: Abū Muḥammad ʿAbd Allah ibn Muḥammad ibn Salm ibn Ḥabīb, originally al-Firyābī, known as al-Maqdisī.
He heard hadith from Muḥammad ibn Rumḥ, Harmalah ibn Yaḥyā, and a group of scholars in Egypt; from Hishām ibn ʿAmmār; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ibrāhīm Duhaym; and ʿAbd Allah ibn Dhakwān in Damascus.
Those who narrated from him include Abū Ḥātim ibn Ḥibbān—who also declared him reliable—al-Ḥasan ibn Rashīq, Abū Aḥmad ibn ʿAdī, Abū Bakr ibn al-Muqriʾ, and others.
Ibn al-Muqriʾ described him as righteous and devoted in his religion.
He died in a year slightly past 310 AH.
