- al-Sijzī, Abū al-ʿAbbās Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Azhar
The imam and ḥāfiẓ, Abū al-ʿAbbās Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Azhar ibn Ḥurayth al-Sijzī.
He related ḥadith from Saʿīd ibn Yaʿqūb al-Ṭālqānī, ʿAlī ibn Ḥujr, Abū Ḥafṣ al-Fallās, Muḥammad ibn Rāfiʿ, and al-Kawsaj.
Among those who narrated from him are the ḥāfiẓ Abū Bakr ibn ʿAlī, ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad ibn Muslim, and a number of others.
Yet he is weak; I have listed him in al-Mīzān⦗1⦘.
He died in 312 AH.
Ibn Ḥibbān transmitted from him, was astonished by his memorization and discussions, but ultimately declared him suspect.
As for the trustworthy Abū al-Ḥasan Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Faḍl al-Sijistānī⦗2⦘, who resided in Damascus, he narrated from Muḥammad ibn al-Muqrīʾ, ʿAlī ibn Khushram, Abū Muḥammad al-Darimī, and their contemporaries.
Those who transmitted from him include Jumah, al-Rabaʿī, Ibn Ḥibbān, Abū Aḥmad al-Ḥākim, and the judge al-Abharī.
He passed away in 314 AH.
