Qays ibn al-Ahnaf also narrated from him.
186 – al-Balkhī, Abū al-ʿAbbās Ḥāmid ibn Muḥammad ibn Shuʿayb*
The imam, ḥadīth scholar, and reliable authority Abū al-ʿAbbās Ḥāmid ibn Muḥammad ibn Shuʿayb ibn Zuhayr al-Balkhī—later known as al-Baghdādī—the educator.
He transmitted ḥadīth from Muḥammad ibn Bakkār ibn al-Rayyān, ʿUbayd Allah al-Qawārīrī, Surayj ibn Yūnus, and their contemporaries.
Those who narrated from him include Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar al-Jiʿābī, ʿAlī ibn Luʾluʾ al-Warrāq, Muḥammad ibn Ismāʿīl al-Warrāq, ʿAlī ibn ʿUmar al-Sukkari, and others.
Al-Dāraqutnī and other critics deemed him trustworthy.
He was born in 216 AH and died in 309 AH at the age of ninety-three, and he was among the last of the musnid scholars.
= al-Mughira ibn Furwa; Abu Dawud adds: and Yazid ibn Abi Malik—that Muawiyah performed ablution in front of the people exactly as he had seen the Messenger of Allah do. When he reached his head, he scooped up a handful of water, received it with his left hand, and placed it on the front of his head until the water dripped—or almost dripped—then he wiped from front to back and back to front.
Its chain of transmission is sound, for al-Walid ibn Muslim explicitly declared that he had heard it.
(1) Ibn Abi Hatim states in al-Jarh wa al-Taʿdil 7/118: al-Qasim ibn Muhammad al-Thaqafi narrated from Muawiyah and from Asma, daughter of Abu Bakr; Qays ibn al-Ahnaf and Uthman ibn al-Mundhir narrated from him. I heard my father say this.
