185 – al-Manbijī, Abū Bakr ʿUmar ibn Saʿīd ibn Aḥmad*
The imam, hadith scholar, exemplar, and devoted worshipper Abū Bakr ʿUmar ibn Saʿīd ibn Aḥmad ibn Saʿd ibn Sinān al-Ṭāʾī, from Manbij.
He received hadith from Abū Muṣʿab al-Zuhrī, Hishām ibn ʿAmmār, Duḥaym, Aḥmad ibn Abī Shuʿayb al-Ḥarrānī, Muḥammad ibn Qudāmah, and their peers.
Among those who narrated from him were al-Ṭabarānī, Abū Ḥātim ibn Ḥibbān, ʿAbdān ibn Ḥumayd al-Manbijī, Abū Aḥmad ibn ʿAdī, ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Malik al-Manbijī, Abū al-Asad Muḥammad ibn Ilyās al-Bālisī, and others.
Ibn Ḥibbān said: “For eighty years he fasted by day and prayed at night, while serving on the frontier in jihad—may Allah have mercy on him.”
I have not been able to determine the year of his death.
Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī al-Ṣāliḥī informed us; al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn al-Ḥasan al-Asadī informed us; my grandfather informed us; ʿAlī ibn Abī al-ʿAlāʾ the jurist informed us; ʿUmar ibn Aḥmad ibn al-Walīd in Manbij informed us; Abū al-Asad Muḥammad ibn Ilyās narrated to us; ʿUmar ibn Saʿīd al-Manbijī narrated to us in the year 306 AH; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ibrāhīm Duḥaym narrated to us; al-Walīd narrated to us; ʿUthmān ibn al-Mundhir narrated to us; he heard al-Qāsim ibn Muḥammad relating from Muʿāwiyah that:
He demonstrated to them the ablution of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When he reached the wiping of the head, he placed his palms on the front of his head, passed them over it until he reached the nape, and then brought them back to the point from which he had started. This is a singular report (1). The al-Qāsim just mentioned was a Thaqafī from Damascus.
