and ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn al-Ghaḍāʾirī, ʿAbd al-Quddūs ibn Muḥammad, and Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Suwayd, the instructor—the mention of these three is found only in Abū ʿAlī al-Ahwāzī (1); and Allah knows best.
Those who reported from him include ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Khiraqī and Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn Suwayd.
Al-Dāraqutnī declared him reliable.
Ibn Abī Hāshim said: “I recited the entire Qurʾān to al-Ushnānī; he was pious, virtuous, and precise, and he told me, ‘I read to ʿUbayd ibn al-Ṣabbāḥ.’”
Abū ʿAlī al-Ahwāzī said: “Al-Ushnānī stopped giving recitation lessons ten years before his death.”
Thus spoke al-Ahwāzī; but if this is correct, how can the claims of Abū Aḥmad and al-Ghaḍāʾirī that they recited to him stand? May Allah disgrace falsehood and those who propagate it.
Al-Ushnānī died in Muḥarram of the year 307 AH.
