Qutaybah in Egypt; the ḥāfiẓ Jaʿfar b. Muḥammad b. Mūsā al-Naysābūrī, nicknamed al-Aʿraj, who resided in Aleppo and was known as “Jaʿfaraka”; the Egyptian Qurʾān-reciter Abū Bakr b. Mālik b. Sayf al-Tujībī; and the shaykh of Baghdad, Abū Muḥammad al-Haytham b. Khalaf al-Dūrī.
His companion Muḥammad b. Ṣāliḥ b. Dhariḥ al-ʿUkbarī—may Allah Most High have mercy upon them all.
Abū al-Faḍl Aḥmad b. Hibat Allāh b. Aḥmad read to us, reporting from ʿAbd al-Muʿizz b. Muḥammad al-Bazzāz: Abū al-Qāsim Tamīm b. Abī Saʿīd al-Jurjānī narrated to us in the year 528 AH; Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Kanjurūdhī narrated to us in 449 AH; Abū ʿAmr Muḥammad b. Aḥmad b. Ḥamdān narrated to us; Abū Yaʿlā al-Mawṣilī narrated to us there in 306 AH; ʿAbd Allāh b. Bakkār told us; ʿIkrima b. ʿAmmār told us, from al-Hirmās b. Ziyād, who said:

This is a ḥasan hadith with a remarkably elevated chain—there are only nine transmitters between us and the Prophet (1).
Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Salām al-Tamīmī informed us; Abū Rūḥ ʿAbd al-Muʿizz b. Muḥammad al-Harawī informed us; Tamīm b. Abī Saʿīd informed us; Abū Saʿd al-Kanjurūdhī informed us; Abū ʿAmr al-Ḥīrī informed us; Abū Yaʿlā narrated to us; ʿAlī b. al-Jaʿd told us; Shuʿbah informed us from Abū ʿAwn, who said: I heard Jābir b. Samura say:
“ʿUmar said to Saʿd, ‘They have found fault with you in everything, even in the prayer.’
He replied, ‘As for me, I lengthen the first two rakʿahs and shorten the last two, and I do not fall short of following what I witnessed of the prayer of the Messenger of Allah.’
He said:
