The shaykh, reliable authority, and scholar: Abū Bakr Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn al-Jaʿd al-Washshāʾ, a Baghdadi.
He heard ḥadith from Suwayd ibn Saʿīd (who transmitted the Muwaṭṭaʾ of Mālik), from Muḥammad ibn Bakkār ibn al-Rayyān, ʿAbd al-Aʿlā ibn Ḥammād, Abū Maʿmar al-Hudhalī, and a group of others.
Narrators who reported from him include Abū Bakr al-Shāfiʿī, Abū ʿAlī ibn al-Ṣawwāf, Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn Gharīb al-Bazzār, and others.
We ourselves received the Muwaṭṭaʾ through his transmission.
Al-Dāraquṭnī said, “There is no problem with him.”
I say: He died in 301 AH, having reached his nineties.
