68 – Ibn Mujāshiʿ, ʿImrān ibn Mūsā al-Jurjānī
The Imām, traditionist, authoritative proof, and ḥāfiẓ: Abū Isḥāq ʿImrān ibn Mūsā ibn Mujāshiʿ al-Jurjānī, known as al-Sakhtiyānī.
He was born in 213 AH (approximately).
He heard ḥadīth from Hudbah ibn Khālid, Shaybān ibn Farrūkh, Ibrāhīm ibn al-Mundhir al-Ḥizāmī, the two sons of Abū Shaybah, Suwayd ibn Saʿīd, Abū al-Rabīʿ al-Zahrānī, and others of their generation.
Those who transmitted from him include his companion Ibrāhīm ibn Yūsuf al-Hisinjānī; Abū ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Akhram; the ḥāfiẓ Abū ʿAlī al-Naysābūrī; Abū ʿAmr ibn Nujayd; Abū ʿAmr ibn Ḥamdān; Abū Bakr al-Ismāʿīlī; Abū Ḥāmid al-Ghuṭrīfī; and many others.
He taught in Naysābūr in earlier days, and among those who received knowledge from him there were Abū Ḥāmid ibn al-Sharqī and the senior scholars.
Al-Ḥākim said: “He is a reliable, accepted traditionist, much travelled and prolific in writing. Among those who reported from him were Aḥmad ibn Khālid al-Dāmghānī and al-Hisinjānī, both of whom were his contemporaries.”
I heard Yaḥyā ibn Muḥammad al-ʿAnbarī say: “I heard ʿImrān ibn Mūsā al-Jurjānī say: I heard Suwayd ibn Saʿīd say: I heard Mālik, Sharīk, Ḥammād ibn Zayd, Ibn ʿUyaynah, al-Fuḍayl ibn ʿIyāḍ, Muslim ibn Khālid, Ibn Idrīs, and everyone from whom I acquired knowledge, all affirming:
‘Faith is speech and action; it increases and decreases.’”
