Ḥumayd al-Rāzī is a liar.’
I recited this before ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad and Shuhdah al-ʿĀmiriyyah; Jaʿfar transmitted it to us, al-Silafī transmitted it to us, Muḥammad ibn Ṭāhir in Hamadhān transmitted it to us, and ʿAbd al-Wahhāb ibn Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq transmitted it. He said: Abū ʿAbd Allāh ibn Mandah told me, ‘The men who produced the authentic collections and sifted the sound reports from the flawed, and the mistaken from the correct, are four: al-Bukhārī, Muslim, Abū Dāwūd, and Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Nasāʾī.’
Among those who died the same year as he were: the traditionist Abū al-Ḥasan Aḥmad ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn Isḥāq, the younger Ṣūfī of Baghdad; the blind exegete and Qurʾān-reciter Abū Jaʿfar Aḥmad ibn Faraḥ al-Baghdādī; the exegete and ḥāfiẓ Abū Isḥāq Ibrāhīm ibn Isḥāq al-Naysābūrī al-Anmāṭī; the ḥāfiẓ and musnid Abū Isḥāq Ibrāhīm ibn Mūsā al-Jawzī; the traditionist Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Naṣr al-Naysābūrī al-Bushtī; the ḥāfiẓ Jaʿfar ibn Aḥmad ibn Naṣr al-Ḥaṣīrī; the ḥāfiẓ al-Ḥasan ibn Sufyān; the traditionist Abū al-Ḥusayn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn Yūnus al-Simnānī; the traditionist ʿUmar ibn Ayyūb al-Saqaṭī of Baghdad; the head of the Muʿtazilites, Abū ʿAlī al-Jubbāʾī; and the ḥāfiẓ Muḥammad ibn al-Mundhir al-Harawī, known as Shakkar.
