65 – al-Nakhaʿī, Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad
A traditionist and scholar, Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn Muṣʿab al-Nakhaʿī, originally from Baghdad.
He heard hadith from Sulaymān ibn Bint Shuraḥbīl, Dāwūd ibn Rushayd, ʿAbd Allah ibn Khubayq, Suwayd ibn Saʿīd, and a number of others.
Among those who narrated from him were al-Tastī, Abū Bakr ibn Khallād, al-Ṭabarānī, Abū Shaykh, and Abū Bakr al-Ismāʿīlī, who said: “He was an elderly shaykh, and phlegm had come to dominate him.”
Al-Ismāʿīlī then transmitted from him a hadith which Abū al-Jahm al-Mashgharaʾī corroborated, on the authority of al-ʿAbbās ibn al-Walīd al-Khallāl: “Marwān ibn Muḥammad narrated to us; Saʿīd ibn Bashīr narrated to us, from Qatādah, from Anas, in a report traced back to the Prophet: ‘I have been given superiority over mankind in four things: generosity, courage, frequent conjugal relations, and formidable strength.’” (1)
