He heard (ḥadīth) from Tālūt ibn ʿAbbād, ʿAbd al-Aʿlā ibn Ḥammād al-Narsī, Hishām ibn ʿAmmār, ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Ghiyāth, Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd ibn Ḥisāb, Aḥmad ibn Abī al-Ḥawārī, and their contemporaries.
Those who narrated from him include: Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr al-ʿUqaylī; Abū ʿAmr ibn Maṭar; Abū Bakr al-Ismāʿīlī; Abū al-Ḥusayn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh (the father of Tammām al-Rāzī); ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAdī; Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī—each of them a ḥāfiẓ—Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī al-Daylamī; and al-ʿAbbās ibn al-Ḥusayn al-Ṣaffār, the last of his students, together with many others.
Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥāfiẓ said, “The trustworthy and dependable Ibrāhīm ibn Yūsuf narrated to us.”
Abū Yaʿlā al-Khalīlī states in his work al-Irshād: “Al-Hisnajānī compiled a Musnad that exceeds one hundred parts; it was transmitted from him by Maysarah ibn ʿAlī al-Qazwīnī.”
Abū Shaykh said, “He died in the year 301 AH.”
I read before ʿĪsā ibn ʿAbd al-Munʿim the tutor: ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Aḥmad informed us in 623 AH; Yaḥyā ibn Thābit ibn Bundār informed us; my father informed us; Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad, the ḥāfiẓ, informed us; Abū Bakr Aḥmad ibn Ibrāhīm, the imam, informed us; al-Ḥasan ibn Sufyān informed us; Ibrāhīm ibn Yūsuf—together with Abū Yaʿlā—narrated to us, saying:
“Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd ibn Ḥisāb narrated to us; Abū ʿAwānah narrated to us, from Abū Ḥuṣayn, from Abū Ṣāliḥ, from Abū Hurayrah, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘Whoever deliberately lies about me, let him take his seat in the Fire.’”
Muslim also narrated it (1) from Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd, and our transmission concurs with his.
