Siyar Aʿlām al-NubalāʾShams al‑Din al‑Dhahabi

• Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad al-Wāsiṭī al-Warrāq: he narrated from Yaʿlā ibn ʿUbayd and a number of others; reliable and skilled. Ismāʿīl al-Ṣaffār and al-Maḥāmilī transmitted from him.

• Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad ibn Rabāl: he narrated from Saʿīd ibn ʿĀmir al-Ḍubaʿī; reliable.

• Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad al-Qūmisī: he narrated from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Mūsā and several others.

• Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad ibn Nūḥ: he narrated from Muḥammad ibn ʿĪsā ibn al-Ṭabbāʿ; a highly reliable authority. He settled as a frontier guard in Adhana, and al-Bardījī and al-Aṣamm narrated from him.

• Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad al-Sāmarī al-Bazzār: he narrated from Abū Nuʿaym and Qabīṣah. Ibn Abī Ḥātim and Ismāʿīl al-Ṣaffār narrated from him; truthful.

• Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿUrwah al-Naysābūrī: he heard ḥadith from Ḥafṣ ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān and al-Jārūd ibn Yazīd. He died long ago, and his reputation is one of honesty.

• Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Qaʿqāʿ: in Baghdad; he narrated from Saʿīd ibn Manṣūr and his contemporaries.

• Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd Allāh ibn al-Munādī: he narrated from ʿĀṣim ibn ʿAlī and his peers. Those who transmitted from him include his son, Abū al-Ḥusayn Aḥmad ibn Jaʿfar ibn al-Munādī, and others.

• Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad ibn Shākir al-Baghdādī al-Ṣāʾigh: a devout servant, he heard ḥadith from Abū Nuʿaym and ʿAffān; reliable, precise, and well-known. His elevated chains appear in the Ghīlāniyyāt (1).

(1) Al-Ghaylaniyyat is an eleven-part collection, extracted by al-Darqutni, consisting of the hadiths transmitted by Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Abd Allah ibn Ibrahim al-Baghdadi al-Shafi‘i al-Bazzar—an eminent imam, reliable authority (hujja), known as al-Mufid, who died in 354/965. The work represents the portion that Abu Talib Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn Ghaylan al-Bazzar (d. 440/1048) personally heard from the aforementioned Abu Bakr. وَجَعْفَرُ بنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الوَاسِطِيُّ الوَرَّاقُ: يَرْوِي عَنْ يَعْلَى بنِ عُبَيْدٍ، وَعِدَّةٍ، ثِقَةٌ، مُجَوِّدٌ، أَخَذَ عَنْهُ: إِسْمَاعِيْلُ الصَّفَّارُ، وَالمَحَامِلِيُّ. وَجَعْفَرُ بنُ مُحَمَّدِ بنِ رَبَالٍ: يَرْوِي عَنْ سَعِيْدِ بنِ عَامِرٍ الضُّبَعِيِّ، ثِقَةٌ. وَجَعْفَرُ بنُ مُحَمَّدٍ القُوْمِسِيُّ: يَرْوِي عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بنِ مُوْسَى، وَعِدَّةٍ. وَجَعْفَرُ بنُ مُحَمَّدِ بنِ نُوْحٍ: يَرْوِي عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بنِ عِيْسَى بنِ الطَّبَّاعِ، ثِقَةٌ كَبِيْرٌ، نَزَلَ مُرَابِطاً بِأَذَنَةَ، حَدَّثَ عَنْهُ: البَرْدِيْجِيُّ، وَالأَصَمُّ. وَجَعْفَرُ بنُ مُحَمَّدٍ السَّامَرِّيُّ البَزَّازُ: حَدَّثَ عَنْ: أَبِي نُعَيْمٍ، وَقَبِيْصَةَ، حَدَّثَ عَنْهُ: ابْنُ أَبِي حَاتِمٍ، وَإِسْمَاعِيْلُ الصَّفَّارُ، صَدُوْقٌ. وَجَعْفَرُ بنُ مُحَمَّدِ بنِ عُرْوَةَ النَّيْسَابُوْرِيُّ: سَمِعَ: حَفْصَ بنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، وَالجَارُوْدَ بنَ يَزِيْدِ، قَدِيْمُ المَوْتِ، مَحَلُّهُ الصِّدْقُ. وَجَعْفَرُ بنُ مُحَمَّدِ بنِ القَعْقَاعِ: بِبَغْدَادَ، عَنْ سَعِيْدِ بنِ مَنْصُوْرٍ وَطَبَقَتِهِ. وَجَعْفَرُ بنُ مُحَمَّدِ بنِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بنِ المُنَادِي: عَنْ عَاصِمِ بنِ عَلِيٍّ وَأَقرَانِهِ، رَوَى عَنْهُ: وَلَدُهُ؛ أَبُو الحُسَيْنِ أَحْمَدُ بنُ جَعْفَرِ بنِ المُنَادِي، وَغَيْرُهُ. وَجَعْفَرُ بنُ مُحَمَّدِ بنِ شَاكِرٍ البَغْدَادِيُّ الصَّائِغُ: العَبْدُ الصَّالِحُ، سَمِعَ: أَبَا نُعَيْمٍ، وَعَفَّانَ، ثِقَةٌ، مُتْقِنٌ، شَهِيْرٌ، عَوَالِيهِ فِي (الغَيْلاَنِيَّاتِ) (١) .
