This is a singular report with an exceedingly elevated chain.
Regarding Rawḥ, Ibn ʿAdī judged him weak, while Ibn Ḥibbān included him in al-Thiqat; al-Ḥākim, for his part, went further and said, “He is reliable, trustworthy.”
Al-Ḥākim also greatly expanded al-Būshanjī’s biographical entry, filling it with various beneficial observations. He stated: “He died on the first of Muḥarram in the year 291 AH.”
Others say he passed away at the close of Dhu al-Ḥijjah in the year 290; he was buried the next day, and Ibn Khuzaymah led the funeral prayer over him.
Būshanj—with a dotted shīn—was identified by Abū Saʿd al-Samʿānī (1), who said, “It is a town seven farsakhs from Herat.”
I add: some pronounce it with an undotted sīn.
“No envy is justified except in two cases: a man to whom Allah has given the Quran, so he stands with it in prayer by night and by day; and a man to whom Allah has given wealth, which he spends by night and by day.” Envy (hasad) means that a person sees a blessing granted to his brother and wishes for it to be taken away from him and reserved for himself; this is blameworthy and forbidden. In this hadith, however, what is intended by “envy” is merely the wish to possess a similar blessing without desiring its removal from the other person.
